Hepcidin-dependent dynamic relationship between renal and splenic iron content dictates responses to injury. Therapies targeting iron-hepcidin-ferroportin pathway holds promise in the treatment of diverse acute and chronic renal diseases. Hepcidin reduction and ferroptosis induction are promising novel strategies to target fibrosis and retard progression of CKD.
